The overall goal of this asthma study is to improve health outcomes for patients with asthma using comparative effectiveness research and evaluate shared decision making interventions and their effects on asthma outcomes. In addition to quantitative analysis of patient outcomes, qualitative analysis was performed on focus groups that were held at practices in all four regions across two years. Focus groups are informal discussions between a moderator and participants that are used to learn about perspectives and opinions on a given topic. The ADAPT-NC project is using focus groups to understand how patients feel about their asthma care – both with and without the shared decision making toolkit.
